A friend visits us and school decision made

We enjoyed a visit from our friend Sarah. She's great and a lot of fun. She read and played with them, bleached my kitchen, listened, chatted and shared. She got to see a bit of what's going on, joined in with all of our activities, went to the kids home, etc etc and it was just a great week having her with us.

She was with our little man every day after school for about two hours doing reading and writing. It's hard work keeping him tuned in and writing words after he gets in the door. We are thankful for her help.

I think a decision about schooling might have been made. An elementary principal called us yesterday to go in for a talk with the teachers and other parents. It was a very short call and my DH and son went without knowing what they were showing up to. They found out that it was actually fall registration. My DH asked lots of questions. Like: can we use one of the classrooms to do English reading and writing a couple of times in the week while the rest of the students are napping. Most kids go to sleep around 10-11pm so at school there are usually 2 hours of rest time each day. And basically just trying to explore ways (picking him up early, etc) to keep up with English schooling. The man was quite flexible and I think, although we weren't expecting to register for school yesterday, we did.

The teachers tested his maths, pingyin and Chinese characters. He did well. I feel relieved and happy to have school sorted out for next fall. We think that there will be about 35 kids in a class. And friends have told us that this school is a good option. It's one of the few schools that told us we could attend and we appreciate their flexibility with us.

I feel sad about the Brexit and the divisions in England. We've been listening to the BBC live feed and reading the news. People here are talking about it and bring up concerns about insecurities, deals that need to be renegotiated with China and those implications, and many more issues.

Thanks for stopping by and reading.
